(b 1855, 81 years old) The former head librarian of the Orne Library, Professor Armitage is a specialist in medieval epigraphy, occultism, and linguistics. He took his D. Litt. at Cambridge. Recently retired, becoming Director Emeritus, and heads the Inquiry full time.

Thoughts on the Documents

Dr. Armitage was not present at the initial meeting with the investigators on August 23rd.

In the overnight meeting with the Inquiry (August 20-21), he agreed to be watched at all times, to determine whether he is in fact writing the documents himself, as seems likely. He proposed to have a group independently research the various references in the documents. That Saturday, he was approached by Mrs. Pickman, who introduced Seamus Archer to him. Upon hearing Archer's story, he asked if the investigators could attend a meeting of like-minded fellows the next day to relate their tale.
